Against all odds, VBS brought the Good News to our city

It was our best Vacation Bible School ever – and it almost didn’t happen.

The pandemic that swept the world kept postponing our outreach, leaving us to wonder if it would be canceled. And with COVID-19 shuttering schools and churches, the need was greater than ever.

Yet behind the scenes, God was at work:

  • Nationwide pandemic restrictions began to be lifted, yet local regulations remained.

  • We sought a city exemption allowing VBS, and it was granted!

  • We needed $4,500 to run the two-week program, and our worldwide friends came through with nearly $6,000 in just two weeks.

As a result, we reached a city-mandated capacity of 80 students during the last two weeks of August. Our theme: Not only does God want children to be His followers – He’s calling them to be leaders of integrity. We focused on the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25, emphasizing the need for courageous, biblical living.

Our children closed out VBS by modeling servant leadership. They divided into teams and delivered food and household supplies to 10 desperate families headed by widows (including about 100 children in their collective care!).

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
— Acts 20:35

Thank you for your generous blessing of prayer and financial support to change lives in Africa. We welcome your continued gifts to support our work in education, discipleship and training entrepreneurs to be self sufficient business leaders.
